☀ MY AWAKENING ☀
I can't remember when this all started. I'm tempted to say I've always felt these things, but I don't think that's quite right. As a kid I did enjoy seeing myself as various nonhuman creatures, but that's just par for the course for kids - and rarely, if ever, did the creatures resemble gnolls. I also remember being fascinated to the point of obsession with feral children, the stories of Tarzan and Mowgli, and with characters and creatures that straddled the human/animal divide, such as shifters and anthros. Unlike with my theriotype and fictotype, the gnoll never had one specific moment I'd refer to as an awakening. It was all a very gradual process.
One thing I do remember, which definitely played a part in all these feelings turning into an identity, was coming across the art of DarkNatasha as a tween. For some reason the way she portrayed (and indeed still portrays) anthropomorphic animals struck a cord with me.
